As Project Manager for the City of Waynesboro, I was also responsible for overseeing the Parks Department. This department managed recreational spaces across the city, providing residents with opportunities for leisure activities, family gatherings, and community events.
One of our most impactful accomplishments was replacing outdated playground equipment and upgrading the safety surface beneath it. While the surface may look like simple wood chips, it is strictly regulated by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), specifically under child playground safety standards. These regulations ensure the materials meet guidelines for chemical safety, proper composition, and hazard prevention—meaning no sharp edges, no harmful chemicals, and no risks to children.
To complete this project, we cleared out the old playground beds, removed outdated materials, and installed new, compliant shavings. The work required careful planning, hauling, and hands-on labor to ensure the playgrounds were safe and inviting for families.
Beyond the playgrounds, I also oversaw restoration projects including the city gazebo, the community fountain, and the initial development of Station Street Memorial Park—completed after my departure. In addition, my responsibilities extended to managing operations at the city auditorium and the city splash pad, further supporting Waynesboro’s commitment to vibrant community spaces.
